About Us

David PluthDavid William Pluth captures iconic images that help define the natural beauty and splendour of Africa's cultures and wildlife for the world.  Mr. Pluth's photographic work is a part of the National Geographic Image Collection and has been featured in countless magazines and publications and in five books, including Kilimanjaro: Journey to the Roof of Africa and Uganda Rwenzori: A Range of Images.  As founder and lead photographer and cameraman for Fotografx, Mr. Pluth provides tourism consultancy, materials, images, videos and documentary films for tourism boards and private clients.  He has recently produced documentaries in Northern Uganda, Vanuatu and North Korea.  For over 20 years, he has been regularly travelling and going on photographic expeditions in Uganda and East Africa, and he has also worked extensively in environmental, energy and development fields in Canada and throughout Africa, from Ghana to Sudan.  Mr. Pluth holds a Masters Degree in environmental design from the University of Calgary, and he is a Ph.D. candidate in economics from the London School of Economics.  Having long been a mountaineer, he has appropriately made his home in Stäefa, Switzerland since 1987.

Sylvester Onyang was born to a Karimojong family in Namalu, Nakapiripirit District in December 1972.  After graduating from Makerere University in Kampala with a B.A. in social anthropology, Mr. Onyang went on to become a nationally recognised journalist and expert on Karamoja.  He contributes regularly to The Monitor, Uganda's foremost independent daily newspaper, and he has written many ground breaking articles about the Karimojong, including coverage of armed conflicts, famines and social issues affecting the region.  He has been a fellow of World Press Photo, a regular guest on radio political talk shows in Uganda and he is currently the director of Pastoral Media (U), a private news and consultancy agency that has produced video documentaries, photographs and publications for Non-Governmental Organisations in Uganda and Karamoja.  He also manages postal and internet services in Nakapiripirit, Katakwi and Kapchorwa.  Mr. Onyang says that his inspiration to become a writer began after he graduated from Moroto High School, and he hopes to inspire other Karimojong students to become journalists and to work towards the region's development. 

Jeremy O'KasickJeremy O’Kasick is an American freelance writer and former Fulbright scholar to Tanzania where he studied the East African independent press.  He often writes about East Africa and traditional cultures, and his work has appeared in African Affairs, The East African, The Guardian and over 25 other publications.  From criticism in the fine arts to internet blogs about mixed martial arts, Mr. O'Kasick's writing has run the full gamut of disciplines as he has made a name for himself as a young writer.  He has also worked extensively with Another Land, a cultural tourism and media company, both in the United States and East Africa, and, since 2006, he has written materials and publications for Fotografx, the highly esteemed media and tourism consultancy group led by Mr. David Pluth.  Mr. O'Kasick is currently working on his second book of creative non-fiction.  In 2000, he graduated from St. Olaf College with a B.A. in English.
